What's a Participant Handle?
A Participant Handle is a short nickname associated with the individual participants in an iFriends video chatroom. For example, if the VCH screenname SWEET-SUZY was hosting a videochat with two of her friends (Ann and Jane), and all three appeared before the webcam, the three participant handles might be "Suzy", "Ann" and "Jane".
Because iFriends requires that all individuals who appear in videochat rooms be age 18 or over (even videochat rooms that do not involve mature-themed content), iFriends requires proof-of-age for each participant handle.
With the new ID Card system, each individual participant can attach his or her ID Card to the a VCH-screenname/participant-handle combination under which he or she appears. This convenient capability also allows individuals to appear in the video chatrooms of friends or aquaintances, always without having to resubmit proof-of-age documentation.
Note -- A Participant handle is valid only in the context of the VCH screenname it is attached to. VCH screennames can have no more than four participant handles. (i.e., the maximum number of people that may currently appear in a videochat together is four).
Prior to October 2003, iFriends required complete proof-of-age documentation for each VCH Screenname, and for each participant under that screenname. After this date, iFriends began requiring complete proof-of-age documentation for only a universal iFriends ID Card, under which an individual or representative can associate one or more VCH screennames, and/or one or more participant handles.
